Some Illinois lawmakers continue to push legalizing gay marriage. Supporters held a rally in Chicago Wednesday to show support for making  same-sex marriage a priority in the upcoming session. Some who live in the Land of Lincoln say its a long time coming while others say it's not needed. In 2012, Illinois legalized civil unions and to date five licenses have been issued in Wabash County. Those who are gay and want to get married say it's about time lawmakers are paying attention, opponents disagree. Lisa Peak says being gay isn't easy, "I've been beaten up by four large straight guys and I have been teased all through high school, I have been verbally abused." As a homosexual she says "We're born this way its a chemical imbalance in the brain." Peak says she couldn't be happier hearing that lawmakers are striving for same sex marriages. Lieutenant Governor Sheila Simon is spearheading this effort. "Its important to me because it makes us feel like we're equal, I mean straight people have all these rights us gay people don't have anything," Peak says. But some Mount Carmel aren't supportive of the possible law., like Lois Frayser who says  "This is the way it's supposed to be..man and woman are supposed to be together not man and man and woman and woman." Frayser says feels gay marriage is a sin. Peak says gay marriage in Illinois would be a step in the right direction. She says its the right of man and and woman to have equality and justice for all. Illinois doesn't seem to be the only legislature focusing on gay marriage this year. In Indiana, there's expected to be a push to allow Hoosiers to vote on  a constitutional amendment banning same sex marriage.
