LST 325 Heading to Texas For Repair Work

By: Michael C. Fehn
Updated: January 7, 2013
LST 325 is about to set sail.  The former warship will leave for for Port Arthur, Texas on Monday, where it will undergo routine maintenance and repairs for the next two months.

"Dry docking takes place about every 10 years to maintain the integrity of the ship and maintain its status as a sailing vessel," said Chris Donahue, a member of the USS LST Ship Memorial Board of Directors. "Some extensive refurbishing will be performed on the bow and the hull of the ship, as well as other areas."

About 50 crew members will make the trip to Texas.  Donahue says most of them will return to Evansville by bus.  Once the maintenance is complete, the crew will travel back to Texas and sail back to Evansville on the ship.
