Tragic Fire Devastates Residents of Mt. Vernon

We're following the developments in a house fire that killed 3 people in Posey County. One of the victims was only 5-years-old. Firefighters responded to the fire in the 1100 block of Mulberry Street in Mount Vernon just after midnight.
The victims have been identified as 28 year old Amanda Robb, her 5-year-old daughter, Aubrey, and 15-year-old Bailey Robb, who has been identified as a family cousin. Now a stunned and grief-stricken community has to cope with the tragic loss.
he small town of Mount Vernon is dealing with the loss of three residents. Around 12:30 this morning, the Mount Vernon Fire Department was called to a house in the 1100 block of Mulberry Street. Mt. Vernon Fire Chief Wes Dixon says, "The fatalities were found in upstairs bedrooms, we believe the fire started downstairs and traveled up the stairwell."
Sandra Leom is devastated at the loss of her sister, her niece, and her nephew, "Bailey, he was 15, he was all about Playstation. Aubrey, she's 5, she's all about playing dolls and doing hair. Mandy's all about spending time with her kids."
Juanita Foster sold the Robbs this house and is very close to the family. "I had family members to call and ask me, were you there? No, i wasn't there. I had been earlier that day."
Three people died in the fire, but it could have been worse, because there were 8 people in the house when the fire broke out. One man told us he escaped through a side window. Three other people escaped the house including one who jumped off of an upstairs porch, and firefighters rescued the eighth person.
The fire chief says when crews arrived there was heavy fire on the first floor and flames had extended to the second floor, but they were able to bring it under control in about 10 minutes. "The weather was a hindrance, we had some minor issues with our hoses freezing up," Dixon explains. The effects of the fire is something that will likely be felt in the small town of Mt. Vernon for a long time.
The fire started in the laundry room around the dryer area, according to the fire chief. The fire then traveled up the stairs and into the second floor.
