Crews Working to Clear Bedrocks from Mississippi River

The Army Corps of Engineers says crews are making "fantastic progress" clearing bedrock from the Mississippi River in southern Illinois. They're working to keep a crucial stretch of the river open to barge traffic. Barge operators are worried shipping through this area could come to a standstill because the water levels are so low. The coast guard says an eventual shutdown is still possible. But given the recent progress, it's probably not likely.
