Henderson County Jail will soon be one of three in the state of Kentucky that offers a substance abuse program inside their facility. The program means the jail will be able secure 50 female inmates that will go through a six month drug abuse program. County leaders say it will help offenders, who are sentenced following some kind of drug conviction.

"We just thought this was a big thing what we're doing," said Henderson County Judge Executive Hugh McCormick. "We know what Evansville is doing. Everybody is fighting this drug problem in every stat,e and we're so tickled to death today just to be able to tell you we're the ones who get to be a part of this and help out with the problems."

With 50 full beds at the jail for this program, officials say it will help off-set the jail's budget the taxpayers end up covering. It also means two full time jobs and a part time position. We're told those openings will be advertised sometime in the near future.
