A ten year old Henderson boy is at a Louisville hospital after deputies say an adult pit bull bites off his nose and eats it. This happened in Henderson County Wednesday afternoon. The child, Matthew Weaver was first taken to Henderson Methodist. Henderson County Sheriff Ed Brady tells us the incident happened on Highway 136 West where the boy was visiting friends. Deputies say the child was staring at the dog, when the owner, Robert Santana says his dog lunged at Weaver, bit off his nose and swallowed it. Sheriff Brady says the dog had to be put down in order for the nose to be removed from the dog's stomach and sent to medical officials. Neighbors in Henderson County say they're in shock. Those who live next to the home also own a pit bull and say they couldn't imagine their dog hurting a child, but they're not too happy about many comments from people calling all pit bulls dangerous.
Ten week old "Bruiser" belongs to Tim Cherolis and Sara Biggs, he's their full-blooded pit bull. They live next door to the home where Henderson deputies say Robert Santana's pit bull ate the nose of a ten year old boy who was visiting. "How in the world, bit it off, then I heard he ate it and I thought he ate the child's nose!" says Biggs. The couple says they don't know their neighbors since the home is a rental property. But as parents, the pain of that child hit them hard. Biggs says "Being that close to me, yea it does worry because what if my kids were out in the yard and that dog came over." But as dog owners, they say alot of dog attacks come from poor treatment and not enough TLC. Biggs tells us "this is my first pit bull but I've had dogs all of my life, I believe its just like a child, as long as you raise them right and you don't have them out on a chain out in the freezing cold weather treat them like your children." Cherolis says "He's (Bruiser) not vicious, he may lick you to death, but I mean I think its all how you raise them." Although some dogs can be dangerous, they say love and proper guidance is a requirement and can sometimes keep these four-legged creatures from snapping. Sheriff Ed Brady says no criminal charges will be filed in this case. Weaver is listed in good condition at Kosair Children's Hospital.

This lady had an even worse expereince with the family pitbull this week, it killed her. http://www.goupstate.com/article/20130109/WIRE/130109711 How many does it take for people to stop believing the hype? People had to see a lot of people die of lung cancer too before they listened to the Surgeon Generals warning about cigarettes. Having a pitbull around any child is a sign of a parent that is recklessly endangering their child. Crazy.

Good journalism gives both sides of the story. Unfortunately the new pitbull owners say the attacks worries them but then they say they think it is how the dog is raised. If this were true, family loved and unabused pitbulls would not keep killing people including their owners. It is NOT mistreated pitbulls that are harming people. If the attacks were caused by poor training than all dogs would attack equally. Beagles are penned up in backyard coops all the time and forgotten and you never hear of them harming people. Pitbulls killed 20 children last year. Mortality, Mauling and Maiming by Vicious Dogs, Annals of Surgery found that family pitbulls are removing a persons Body part every 4 days now. Exactly how many noses, legs, eyes, ect do rational and intelligent people need to have pitbulls take from innocent victims before they stop taking in the animals as pets. Yeah Hollywood can peddle them So what. Hollywood peddled cigarettes too and it took government laws to get celebrities to stop promoting them on t.v. as their is always somebody who will advertise anything for a buck. Wealthy dog fighters promote pitbulls in family homes as it makes it very hard for law enforcement to recognize dog fighting activity. Follow the money and use your brain. We don't need every single person walking around with missing body parts to learn the lessons. Pitbulls are unpredictable and not fit to be pets.
