Evansville based Berry Plastics says it's getting bigger, the company announced plans Tuesday to expand manufacturing to its current products and produce new ones, and its bringing more than 30 million dollars to the table. Berry Plastics is investing 33 million dollars into its Evansville facility and 40 thousand of that amount is coming from the city itself. Mayor Lloyd Winnecke says retaining current jobs and adding new ones is a huge positive for the River City." Pretty soon these three lanes of Division Street near Berry Plastics will become two, plans are in the works to increase this railroad track as part of the company's production growth. These tracks equals commerce for the company. "We have a significant investment in engineering and research here in Evansville, it is our largest R&D facility and those inventions create exciting new products for our customers that help us grow." says CEO Jon Rich. Mayor Lloyd Winnecke and others are on hand for the announcement to expand production capacity. That will add 115 new jobs over the next two years. "Since the recession started in 2008, their employment in Evansville has increased 65% that shows you how strong that company is." says Mayor Winnecke. Both Winnecke and Rich say this is great proof of the strength of economic development. In addition to Evansville's 40 thousand dollar contribution, the state is chipping in with 400 thousand. Many say the idea of keeping work here at home will reap benefits. 900 thousand dollars will be focused on railroad infrastructure, Berry Plastics says expanded production capacity means more raw materials, the company receives its raw materials via railroad, a new railroad will be added and the company says expect changes by the end of the year.

Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke announced Tuesday morning that Berry Plastics will expand its Evansville operation, adding more than a hundred jobs. Berry is investing $33 million dollars in the expansion, which will create 115 new jobs to its current 1,800 person workforce in Evansville. Berry President Jon Rich says those jobs should be in place by the end of the year. He went on to say the company is "extremely appreciative of the city, county, state who worked with Berry to make the project possible." The city is also pitching in, committing $40,000 to the project, part of which will go toward expanding the company's rail infrastructure.
