The Evansville Police Department is hoping to strengthen its relationship with the community over a cup of joe. EPD is starting Coffee with a Cop, a new monthly meeting that will take place at various Donut Banks. The first one was at the Lincoln Ave. location. Officers say this is an informal and comfortable way to meet with some of the almost 300 men and women workng on the force.

"I think we need to do a better job of outreach in the community," said EPD Chief Billy Bolin, "getting to know the community, giving them a chance to get to know us. And you know we're in convenience stores. We're in the coffee shops all the time, but sometimes people just don't feel comfortable approaching us or don't know if they should. So, this is kind of a way to say we're going to be here, come talk to us no agenda."

Coffee with a Cop will happen every third Tuesday. The next one is set up for February 19, from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. at the Donut Bank on St. Joseph Ave.
