The Indiana Senate Education Committee delays a vote on a proposal to require cursive writing in public schools. Law makers were scheduled to vote on the issue today, but it was delayed due to the amount of other items on the agenda.

Although many schools say they still teach cursive writing, it is no longer a requirement. State Representative Gail Riecken of Evansville says if the bill makes it to the house it has her support.

"There is no good reason to do away with cursive writing," said Rieken. "I've been trying to ask people why are we donig this, and there is no good rerason. You know we're getting to the point where well maybe it's not so important that they know how to print because they can put it in their computer, no."

Schools say even though cursive writing is no longer required, it is still taught in most schools.
