US/World Summary General Petraeus To Update Lawmakers On Iraq (Washington, DC) -- General David Petraeus today is expected to recommend against any sizeable U.S. troop withdrawals from Iraq in coming months. Petraeus will make the recommendation as he begins updating lawmakers in a series of hearings on Iraq. Hell argue additional time is required to evaluate security conditions. Presidential candidates John McCain, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton serve on two committees that Petraeus will testify before today. His first stop will be before the Senate Armed Services Committee. --- Women, Kids Leave Texas Religious Compound (Eldorado, TX) -- Temporary legal custody of over 400 children, removed from a polygamist ranch in Texas, is now in the hands of Child Protective Services. Texas CPS spokesperson Marleigh Meisner 1/81/8 MAR-lay MIE-zner 3/83/8 says a judge determined the children were at risk of being harmed or have been victims of abuse or neglect. Investigators are still searching the ranch for other children but believe most of them have been removed. A hearing has been set for April 17th. The court will determine what will happen to the children in the future. --- Kansas Beats Memphis For College Basketball Championship (San Antonio, TX) -- The Kansas Jayhawks surged past the Memphis Tigers last night to take home the mens NCAA basketball title. The Jayhawks got a three-pointer with two seconds left to send the game to overtime, then dominated the extra five minutes for a, 75-68, victory. Forward Darrell Arthur led Kansas with 20 points, and Mario Chalmers added 18, including the game-tying basket at the end of regulation. Chalmers was named the Final Fours Most Outstanding Player. This was KUs third championship win in school history. --- Over 300 Fugitives Arrested During South Florida Immigration Roundup (Miami, FL) -- Federal agents have arrested more than 300 fugitives during a two-week immigration roundup in South Florida. Officials say most were illegal immigrants who had ignored final orders of deportation while others were convicted criminals. The arrests took place in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties. ICE Florida Field Office Director Michael Rozos says the roundup was one of the largest customs enforcement operations ever conducted in South Florida. --- Brooklyn Child Found Dead In Closet (Brooklyn, NY) -- New York Police Department officials are investigating the discovery of a young Brooklyn girl found dead inside a closet. Officers responded to a home last night and found the unidentified 12-year-old girl hanging in the closet. She was taken to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead. No arrests have been made in the case. --- Samuel Adams Issues Recall Due To Glass In Beer Bottles (Boston, MA) -- People with Samuel Adams beer in the fridge should check the bottom of the bottles. Boston-based brewery Samuel Adams has issued a voluntary recall after small bits of glass were found in some bottles at one of its breweries. There have been no reports of any injuries. The company says the problem appears to be isolated to a single bottle supplier. The affected bottles have "N35" followed by the letters "OI." --- Moss Ranks Best Dressed By "Glamour" (London) -- British supermodel Kate Moss was named the best-dressed by "Glamour" magazine in its annual list. Moss reclaimed her title over last years winner, Kylie Minogue, who moved to 19th this year. The magazine said Minogues fashion choices during the last 12 months have been too "outlandish" for voters tastes. Topping the worst-dressed list was Britney Spears.
