So what can you do to protect yourself in those situations? The CDC recommends if you use a fireplace, wood stove, or other combustion heaters, make sure they're properly vented, and that they don't leak gas into the indoor air space. Also, never use a charcoal or gas grill indoors, because the fumes are deadly. Never leave lit candles unattended. And make sure you have good insulation so you can keep as much heat as possible inside your home.
