City commissioners will vote on a proposed conceal carry ban thursday. If approved, it would prohibit hidden guns from city owned buildings. The first reading of the proposal was unanimously approved tuesday night. Commissioners say the proposed ban would make city parks and offices safer.
"It gives citizens a sense of safety in city buildings and parks," says Commissioner Robby Mills. "I think that's what it's all about. The less guns in people's hands in any situation, the safer we are."
The ban wouldn't apply to law enforcement officers or city owned buildings used as private homes. People can still carry guns that aren't concealed inside city buildings.
