It may soon be illegal to carry a concealed gun in Henderson city buildings and parks soon. City commissioners will vote on a proposed conceal carry ban Thursday. If approved, it would prohibit hidden guns from city owned buildings.

The first reading of the proposal was unanimously approved Tuesday night. Commissioners say the proposed ban would make city parks and offices safer.

"It gives citizens a sense of safety in city buildings and parks," said Henderson City Commissioner Robert Mills. "I think that's what it's all about. The less guns in people's hands in any situation, the safer we are."

The ban wouldn't apply to law enforcement officers or city owned buildings used as private homes. People can still openly carry guns inside city buildings.
