Illinois Governor Pat Quinn signs legislation designed to promote the education of elementary school children about sexual assault and abuse. The measure, known as Erin's Law, builds on the requirement for middle and high schools to provide sexual assault and abuse education. Under the law, schools must instruct pre-kindergarten through 5th grade students. The legislation is named after sexual abuse victim Erin Merryn, an Illinois native who contends children must be taught how to avoid and report sexual abuse.
