Indiana May Start Charging Online Sales Tax

By: Michael C. Fehn

Indiana's Governor promised he wouldn't pursue it, but it looks like the General Assembly wants you to start paying online sales tax.  That means everything you buy from places like Amazon will cost 7 percent more, if you live in Indiana.

Supporters say online retailers have an advantage in the Hoosier state over regular stores, but that's an advantage Governor Daniels struggled to keep, promising Amazon not to collect that money if they'd build more warehouses in the state.

Correction!! I guess it depends where the seller is located. I was not charged sales tax on my most recent purchases.

I am not sure what they mean by "...may start..." I have been paying 7% sales tax when ordering from Amazon for quite a while. Just ordered several items last week and was charged Indiana sales tax.
