A federal mandate from the Department of Education wants local districts to offer after-school sports. Federal officials say the new mandate does not require separate sports programs for special education students. Instead, it urges school districts to find other ways to provide similar opportunties. Warrick County Superintendent Brad Schneider says his district already offers those opportunities.

"We have a lot of opportunities for students, and those are for all students." said Schneider. "Not just regular students but special education students have full access to those programs just as any other student would have access to them."

Many compare the mandate, which is based off a recent report to Title IX's expansion of women's athletics.
