Members of the Evansville/Vanderburgh County joint task force were contacted after a postal service inspector found a package believed to contain drugs.
The postal inspector, and members of the task force took the package to the home of the addressee, Gerald McIntyre, who is an adjunct professor at USI. The inspector told McIntyre he believed the package contained marijuana. According to police records, McIntyre indicated he could smell it, and said the package was sent to him from a friend who he had asked to send him his mail, along with one joint.
The postal inspector asked McIntyre to open the package, at which time, investigators were called in. They say the package contained four plastic bags of cocaine and another bag filled with marijuana.
According to police documents, McIntyre told officers he did not know there was cocaine in the package, but that he would have used the drugs.
McIntyre is charged with possession of marijuana and cocaine and is being held in the Vanderburgh County Detention Center.
