We continue to follow developments in the allegations made against a former Vanderburgh County Sheriff's deputy.

Deputy Stuart Mosby resigned Monday night amid an internal investigation that discovered he allegedly logged hours on his time card that he didn't work, according to sources familiar with the situation.

Following an internal audit late last year, Vanderburgh County Sheriff Eric Williams says Mosby had been placed on administrative leave.

The allegations then started to surface and Mosby resigned.

Even though Mosby's 17 year tenure at the Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office over, the investigation continues.

When Deputy Stuart Mosby resigned Monday night, it followed allegations he falsely claimed to have worked a federally funded traffic grant.

Citing an open investigation, Sheriff Eric Williams declined to elaborate.

However, he did say in a statement the granting authority has been notified and briefed on the status of the investigation. Furthermore, Sheriff Williams says the department is waiting on guidance from the granting authority.

The granting authority, according to sources, would be the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. An administration spokesperson declined to comment.

Attempts to contact Mosby to get his side of the story have proved unsuccessful.

However, for all intents and purposes, several people we spoke with say they hold former Deputy Mosby in high regard.

And you might say for good reason.

It was 2008. Mosby was first on scene and performed CPR on a dying child.

That child was 3 year old Kalab Lay. Because of his work in the case, Mosby received special honors from the VCSO back in 2009.

Mosby was a motor patrol sergeant back then before he resigned from the position back in November, according to Sheriff Williams. In a statement, Sheriff Williams says that came as the result of a different and unrelated administrative investigation.

Sources with knowledge of the situation say Mosby served a 15-day suspension back in mid-November because of that investigation.

We'll keep following this developing story.
