A local farmer hopes some new cash will help give students a college education. Sharon Cates of Henderson has been selected as a winner in America's Farmers Grow Communities sponsored by the Monsanto Fund. She won $5,000 for Rotary Colonels to College and the Henderson Christian Community Outreach Program. Cates is a retired teacher and says this money will help send more students off to college.

"Particularly for students that maybe do not receive scholarships," said Cates, "and they don't have the finances at home to go to college. This will allow them to get their college education."

This year the Monsanto Fund invested over $5 million for areas in the U.S. that suffered from this year's historic drought.
