A Carmi, Illinois native who was stranded on the carnival cruise ship says he is thankful to be back home. Robert Miles made it back on land Thursday night. We talked to him on the phone this afternoon after he arrived home in Dallas, Texas. Miles says it took him an hour to get off the ship last night, but it took his friends five hours.

He says the first three days of the trip were great, but the next five were hell. He says the sick living conditions described on the news were true. Miles says it was the best feeling in the world, when the ship arrived in Mobile, Alabama.

"Even though it took a while to get off the ship and through the ramps," said Miles, "those people meeting us there, cheering for us. It was just overwhelming because we didn't have any contact really to the outside world, and them meeting us there and clapping for us made me realize that they were doing that for us the whole time. Rooting for us, and it was just humbling, very humbling feeling."

Miles says he had to wait in line for a couple hours to get food on the ship, and there wasn't much variety. So last night, Miles says he had pork tenderloin for dinner.
