It looks like the old Showplace Cinemas South on Hebron Ave. is going to shut down. The theater's owner Paul Stieler tells the Evansville Courier & Press he's planning to demolish the nearly 40 year old building this summer. The theater will still show movies until then. It's expected that film won't be used in movie theaters anymore by the end of the year. And upgrading the discount theater to digital projection looks to be took expensive. Stieler says he's always made money at the theater, and is looking for another business to build there.
