Spending Cuts Could Mean Furloughs For Some Federal Workers

Federal employees could start facing furloughs this Spring, if Congress doesn't do something about automatic spending cuts. Those across the board cuts kick in March 1st, and agencies will have to trim budgets, talk to unions, and give employees 30 days notice before forcing them to take unpaid days off.
The whole thing can be avoided if the White House and Congress agree on a plan to cut the deficit. The President is asking Congress to pass a short term fix.
