Investigation: New Details in Past, Present Allegations Against Former Deputy

Earlier this month, we reported former Deputy Stuart Mosby resigned amid
allegations he falsely claimed to have worked a grant funded traffic
detail. However, documents show this isn't the first time questions
have been raised about the former deputy.
Former Deputy Stuart Mosby spent 17 years in the Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office but his tenure came to an abrupt end February 4th.
Eyewitness News obtained his resignation letter which plainly stated, "I Stuart Mosby will be resigning from the Vanderburgh Sheriff Office on February 4th. But multiple sources say the circumstances surrounding Mosby's resignation are anything but ordinary.
Following the discrepancies found as a result of an internal audit, Mosby resigned amid allegations he claimed to have worked a traffic detail funded by the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute.
But let's rewind to last October when Mosby faced another issue prior to the resignation of his rank as sergeant.
Through the information requests, Eyewitness News obtained the incident report which sources say ultimately prompted a series of events that led to Mosby's suspension. Multiple corroborating sources say Mosby went to a Fifth Third Bank branch to report his credit card stolen after discovering $1600 in charges. But those sources claim Mosby knew his credit card was not stolen.
In order to claim the charges were fraudulent, the bank needed a police report from Mosby. Then, according to sources, Mosby ordered one of his subordinates to create the report which Mosby later approved.
Multiple sources say once detectives and Internal Affairs came across the report, an administrative investigation was launched by the sheriff's office.
We obtained the personnel order which notified Mosby of his suspension. The administrative investigation found Mosby breached the 'knowledge of regulations' and 'abuse of position' standards of conduct. In addition to resigning his rank as sergeant, Mosby had to serve a 15 day suspension without pay through much of November.
According to state law, a sheriff may temporarily suspend an officer or deputy for a period that doesn't exceed 15 days without a hearing before a merit board or commission.
We reached out to former deputy Mosby for comment on the allegations both past and present but to no avail.
In an email, Vanderburgh County Sheriff Eric Williams told me he was not available Tuesday afternoon for comment.

It makes you really want to know what he was doing while he said he was working. And was it him who racked up that credit card bill or someone else? Strange story.
