The Mater Dei Lady Wildcats (28-2) defeated #6 Eastern (Greentown) 62-42 to claim it's second consecutive state title in Class 2A.  Sophomore Tori Schickel led Mater Dei with 18 points, despite facing double and triple teams throughout the game.  Junior Maura Muensterman seemed to tweak her left ankle during halftime, team trainers kept her in the tunnel to work on it, but she returned and played the entire second half.
The Lady Wildcats road to the title wasn't easy.  They faced the #2, #3 and #4 teams in the state in Regionals and Semi-states, the only true challenge in the semi-final game against #2 Heritage Christian.  Mater Dei led from the onset in the title game, finishing the first quarter with an eight point advantage.  They stretched it to a 21-point lead by halftime, before closing the door in the second half.
Mater Dei finishes the season with the #1 ranking, their second straight state championship and a stellar 28-2 record.
