A man is dead following an accident and shooting on Evansville's south side. It happened shortly after 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 1700 block of South New York Ave.

Evansville Police say an SUV was traveling south on New York when it drove off the road and through several yards -- before hitting a tree. When officers arrived on-scene they found a man with gun shot wounds dead inside the vehicle.

The SUV drove through Rachel Tucker's yard before crashing. "I heard a bunch of like loud stuff hitting the ground and then I heard gunfire and that's when all of us hussle-bussled outside just to see what was going on and when we got out there we saw a man standing outside the car waving a gun around," says Tucker.

Officers detained two men who ran away from the scene. EPD is not releasing the names of those involved in the incident at this time.
