As Eyewitness News reported Tuesday, Harp has come under fire because she only has a $100,000 bond. State law requires County Treasurers to obtain a $300,000 bond.
In a brief statement Harp says she has tried to obtain the higher bond, but she has not been able to do so. She also thanked the people who stood by her while she tried to resolve the issue.
A bond is like an insurance policy that the county would be able to make a claim against in case county funds ever came up missing.
Harp was elected Treasurer in November. It will be up to Posey County Republicans to select her successor.
