The annual Colorectal Cancer Survivor Breakfast took place this morning at Eastland Mall. Studies show colorectal cancer the second leading cause of cancer deaths nationwide. Survivors say the event also lets them encourage those currently battling the disease.
"Cancer is a very, very bad word in your lift," says Phyllis Newcomb. "It's just an opportunity to be together, to celebrate the survivors, and to encourage these new people that are still in treatment."
The breakfast coincides with National Colorectal Cancer Awareness month.
