About 40 students were in a bus that went off a road near Chattanooga, Tennessee on Sunday night. Dispatchers in Hamilton County, Tennessee say more than 20 people were taken to hospitals, but none of the injuries were life-threatening. Many of the students were heading back to Owensboro after they left Chattanooga Monday afternoon. William Basham's son, Kenny, was on the bus that crashed. Kenny told his dad that the brakes started failing before the accident.
"He said he noticed the odor of the brake pads burning," says William. "The bus was getting faster and faster, in a couple of cases, he thought the bus was going to flip."
Basham says his son told him when he noticed the bus going out of control, he braced for impact as soon as he could to improve his chance of surviving.
