Branchville Escapees Returned to Indiana Department of Correction Custody
Indianapolis, Indiana (April 16, 2008)--Branchville Correctional Facility escapees Kent Day and Conan Helsley were captured by Indiana State Police troopers and deputies from the Warrick County Sheriff’s Department on Tuesday, April 15.
After a brief stay in the Warrick County Jail, Day and Helsley were transported early Wednesday morning to Wabash Valley Correctional Facility in Carlisle, Indiana by a high security transport team from the Indiana Department of Correction (DOC). Upon their arrival, the two offenders were medically evaluated and determined to need no outside medical care. They have been placed in single cells in a special confinement unit pending further evaluation of their placement in DOC facilities.
The Perry County Prosecutor’s Office and other jurisdictions in Indiana and Kentucky will decide what charges will be brought against offenders Day and Helsley for crimes committed while on the run.
Indiana Department of Correction Commissioner J. David Donahue applauded the outstanding law enforcement effort and cooperation that culminated in yesterday’s arrests. Donahue said, “We owe the Indiana State Police and all other law enforcement agencies involved in the apprehension of escapees Day and Helsley our gratitude and thanks for their fine work.”
