A new era has officially begun for the North Posey High School football team.  Today is the first day in more than four decades a man named Gengelbach was not the head coach.
How does someone replace a legend? How do you fill shoes that haven't been empty in 43 years?
"This is only the third coach we've had," says Athletic Director Virgil Ferguson.  "Coach Gengelbach has had it for the last 44, 43 years."
It takes someone familiar with the tradition of Viking football.  A man like Paul Rynkiewich.
"I have the utmost respect for Coach Gengelbach," says Rynkiewich.  "It's truly a great honor [to take over as head coach]."
After going 10-1 last season, the Vikings new coach has his work cut out for him. "We lost 19 of 22 starters from last year's team so we're going to have to have some guys step up and show some leadership."  But the long-time offensive coordinator plans to stay the course.
"I was with [Gengelbach] for 31 years," Rynkiewich says.  "So offense and defense not a lot is going to change, but with that being said I'm going to do things my own way too."
Coach Rynk's offense that put up nearly 43 points per game last year. but Ferguson says he's even better off the field.
"Coach Rynkiewich has got a great rapport with the student body," he says.  "He won North Posey Teacher of the Year."
"Winning and losing is important," says the new coach.  "We want to win football games and we want to win bad.  But the most important part is teaching these young men to be men of character."
Rynkiewich will debut as head coach on August 23rd against South Spencer.
