Spencer Co. Sheriff's Deputies say he died after his car went in front of a semi going west on Indiana 66, just outside of the high school. His death has left many at the school shocked. South Spencer Co. School Corp. Superintendent Candis Haskell says counselors were at the school, helping students and teachers cope with Hamilton's death. She also says many of the students and staff wore blue, one of the school's colors, as a tribute to Jacob.
"They cared about Jacob," she says. "He was one of their own, and when you're in a small school like this, you're a family, and they lost a part of their family."
Meanwhile, many in the area say something needs to be done about the intersection where Hamilton died. An online petition was started to get INDOT to put a stop light there. Currently, blinking yellow and red lights are at the intersection.
