Right now, students can choose to drop out of school at the age of sixteen, but under the new law, school districts will be able to choose whether to increase the dropout age. If the requirement is adopted by 55-percent of school districts, the law would automatically go into effect state-wide.
Both Henderson County and Owensboro Schools are planning to add a vote to a school board meeting within the next few months.
