The annual county health rankings are the work of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute, and show how long and well people live depends on more than just access to basic medical care. Some of the other factors include childhood poverty, smoking, obesity, access to physicians and dentists, rates of high school graduation and college, and access to healthy foods and levels of physical activity.
With so many factors determining the rankings, you might be asking yourself, where does my county fall. In Indiana, Hamilton County tops the list as the healthiest, while Scott County ranks last. The healthiest Tri-State County from Indiana is Dubois at number 4, while Knox sits at number 74. Vanderburgh County ranked 72.
In Kentucky, Oldham County topped the list as the Commonwealth's healthiest, while Floyd came in last. Hancock was the healthiest Tri-State County in Kentucky at number ten, while Muhlenberg ranked 74th.
In Illinois, the healthiest county went to Douglas, while Alexander bottomed out the list. The healthiest Tri-State county in Illinois was Wayne at number 46, and Gallatin was the lowest Tri-State County in the state at number 101.
