A Vanderburgh Superior Court judge heard three hours of arguments in a case involving one of the areas largest employers.
The United Mine Workers is in a dispute with Alcoa concerning toxic chemicals dumped in the Squaw Creek mine in the 1970s.
The miners have filed suit saying their members have suffered health problems in recent years.
Alcoa says the case should be workmans comp issue.
Alcoa had permits to dump the chemicals.
Judge Scott Bowers has not yet said when he will issue a ruling in the case.
