Wal-Mart Recalls Key Chain Charms

Updated: April 18, 2008
Key Chain Charms Recalled Due To High Lead Levels (Washington, DC) -- Some 12-thousand charms attached to a key chain sold by Wal-Mart Stores are being recalled due to high levels of lead in the paint. The Consumer Product Safety Commission says lead in the "Hip charms" can be toxic if ingested and result in adverse health effects. The Illinois Attorney General reported earlier this month a nine-month-old child was found mouthing one of the "Hip charms" and was later determined to have high blood-levels of lead. The charms include a button, clover, leaf, heart and sand dollar. The words "Hip charm" and UPC number 31568-11017 are printed on the packaging. The items were sold from April 2005 through April of this year and were made in China. Consumers are urged not to allow children to handle the charms and to return them to the store for a full refund. (Copyright 2008 by Newsroom Solutions) RNS-04-18-08 1307CDT
