Henderson firefighter Chad Garrett is in charge of the maintaining the flag at his station--and that job is ever-changing. Garrett: "The city used to send us out a notice saying either raise or lower the flag, its become so frequent now, we just check the website ourselves" The government website lets Garrett know what the status of the flag should be. Just a few days ago--the governor directed flags be lowered in honor of a Fort Campbell soldier killed in Iraq. Its to remain that way until after the soldiers funeral. But its become so frequent--most people dont even notice. Still, most agreed, its an appropriate tribute. Some have suggested leaving the flag at half-staff until all the troops come home--firefighter Garrett didnt like that idea--because he says each soldier lost deserves the honor of having it lowered, and he doesnt mind doing the job.
