Wal-Mart Offering To Cash Rebate Checks For Free
(New York, NY) -- Wal-Mart stores across the U.S. are offering to cash tax rebate checks for free.
The offer comes as the retailing giant also announced reduced prices on goods like lunch meat and cereal.
While other retailers are requiring customers to spend some or all of their rebate checks in their stores to receive special deals, Wal-Mart has no such requirement.
Eduardo Castro-Wright, head of Wal-Marts U.S. operations, said, quote, "if you want to cash the check at Wal-Mart and go spend it at a competitor, thats fine with us."
Food chains like Kroger and Supervalu are offering to swap rebate checks for a store gift card of a higher value.
Wal-Mart hopes free rebate check cashing and upcoming price cuts will entice shoppers to spend rebate cash in their stores.
Wal-Mart is also offering a purchase fee refund on its MoneyCard when any part of the stimulus check is loaded onto the prepaid Visa.
