Dogs In Home Beneficial Against Allergies In Kids (London) -- Researchers in Germany say having a pet dog in the home reduces the risk that young children will develop allergies. Scientists say thats because kids may benefit from early exposure to germs carried into homes on the animal. Their study backs the theory that growing up around a pet helps the immune system to be less sensitive to triggers for allergies like hay fever and asthma. However, the same effect was not seen in children who had frequent contact with dogs but didnt have one at home. The study findings were published in the "European Respiratory Journal."
