After two inmates escaped from the Warrick County jail, state inspectors arrived to take a closer look at the facility. Members of the Indiana Department of Corrections Program Review Division are tasked with reviewing all jails as well as state prisons using more than 200 criteria. They range from from staff training to food service to building safety and security. Those reviews become public record, but it is very difficult to compare one countys report to another. "Youve got a wide array of sizes of jails," said Ronald Allen, director of the D.O.C. Program Review Division. "They are independent and autonomous based on their countys vision of security and safety." Some county jails in Indiana have as many as 3,000 beds, others just 25. Still, a closer look at each jails annual inspection report can show just where the lock up is succeeding, and where it is falling short. Thursday night on Fox 7 news, well take a closer look at some local jails, and their annual report cards.
