Clinton Claims Win In Indiana, Pledges To Support Democratic Ticket (Indianapolis, IN) -- Senator Hillary Clinton proclaimed its, quote, "full speed on to the White House" following her apparent victory in Indiana. Although results were not yet official, Clinton took the stage in Indianapolis late in the evening to declare victory in that states contest for delegates to the Democratic national convention. Citing high gasoline prices, she pushed her gas tax holiday and criticized her opponent, Senator Barack Obama, for not supporting it. She also said too many people feel invisible under the Bush administration, and pledged to work for the middle class. Clinton congratulated her opponent for his victory in the North Carolina primary. Asserting that support of everyday Americans is the difference between winning and losing, Clinton appealed for campaign contributions shortly into her speech. Her campaign has been plagued by money problems, but Clinton noted she won in Indiana despite being heavily outspent by Obama. Taking on presumptive Republican presidential contender John McCain, Clinton said nothing will change if McCain is elected president. She said McCain will continue the policies of the Bush administration, standing up for the wealthy and the well-connected. She said, quote, "it will not be a change if Republicans keep the White House." Clinton asserted she will stand up for ordinary Americans in the middle class. Departing from domestic issues, Clinton noted the tragedy in Myanmar, where more than 22-thousand people were killed and more than 40-thousand are missing in a devastating cyclone. She called on the Burmese government to accept American aid and admit U.S. relief workers. On political issues, Clinton said no matter who wins the Democratic presidential nomination, she will work to support the ticket the general election. She also said its important that every vote be counted, including those cast in Florida and Michigan. Delegates from those states have been denied standing because the states violated party rules by holding their elections earlier than allowed. Clinton concluded by saying, quote, "there isnt anything America cant do once we make up our minds to start acting like Americans again." (Copyright 2008 by Newsroom Solutions) RNS-05-06-08 2302CDT
