Indiana Summary Clinton Wins Indiana Primary By Narrow Margin (Indianapolis) -- Hillary Clinton has won the Indiana primary election, keeping alive her White House bid against Democratic front-runner Barack Obama. The New York senator, who would be the first woman U.S. president, needed a decisive win to counter Obamas growing lead and to answer critics who argue she has no chance of winning and should end her candidacy for the good of the party. She ended up winning by about two-percent. --- Clinton Campaign Buoyed By Indiana Victory (Indianapolis) -- Clinton campaign Chairman Terry McAuliffe calls Hillary Clintons victory in Indiana, quote, "a tie breaker." McAuliffe points out that several more primaries are still scheduled, with 300 or more delegates yet to be chosen and six to seven-million more Democratic voters to cast ballots. He also says Democrats are responding positively to Clintons pocketbook positions, saying hes "very comfortable" with the progress of the campaign. McAuliffe is undeterred by Clintons loss to Barack Obama in North Carolina, saying, quote, "I always new it was going to be a hard slog in North Carolina." --- Thompson Claims Win In Democratic Gubernatorial Primary (Indianapolis) -- Vote counting early this morning has apparently given Jill Long Thompson the win over Jim Schellinger in Indianas Democratic gubernatorial primary. Thompsons campaign claimed victory in the form of an e-mail sent around 3 a.m. while holding a lead of about 54-hundred votes. More than one-point-two-million votes were cast in yesterdays election. Thompson is poised to go against incumbent Mitch Daniels, who was unopposed in the Republican primary. Schellinger and Thompson spoke to supporters around 11 p.m. yesterday with Schellinger leading by slightly over eight-thousand votes. That turned around when Lake County started its reporting totals right around midnight. Schellinger won his home, Marion County, by just over two points, but the Lake County vote went to Thompson by about 54-percent to 46-percent. --- Latest Winning Hoosier Lottery Numbers Daily Three-Midday: 0-0-8; Daily Three-Evening: 6-4-4; Daily Four-Midday: 0-3-4-5; Daily Four-Evening: 4-4-5-8; Lucky Five-Midday: 9-14-20-26-29; Lucky Five-Evening: 10-11-19-29-31 Kentucky Summary (Frankfort, KY) -- Political observers say Kentuckys primary, once thought to be insignificant, will now be very important. After a narrow win in Indiana and a big loss in North Carolina, the Clinton campaign is expected to increase efforts in Kentucky. The next big primary is West Virginia next week, then Kentucky on the 20th. The Obama campaign is already running TV ads in Kentucky. (Louisville, KY) -- Bruce Lunsford continues to lead the list of candidates running for the Democratic senate nomination. The latest Survey USA/ WHAS 11 poll shows Greg Fisher, Lunsfords closest challenger trailing by 19-percentage points, but thats six points closer than the week before. (Nicholasville, KY) -- Fisherman discovered a burning pickup truck along the Kentucky River in Jessamine County. Authorities discovered a body in the bed of the truck, witnesses say the body is not recognizable. The state medical examiners office is conducting an autopsy today. The truck discovered on Hunters Ferry Road. (Carrollton, KY) -- Carrollton Police are investigating what they believe was a murder-suicide. 85-year-old Harry Hopperton and his wife 83-year-old Myla Hopperton are dead. Police say Mr. Hopperton came to the Green Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center where his wife is a resident, shot her in the head then turned the gun on himself. (Lexington, KY ) -- People carrying PETA signs stood next to people carrying anti-PETA messages outside the Kentucky Horse Racing Authority at the Kentucky Horse Park. PETA was raising issues of treatment of race horses and the dirt versus synthetic surface issue while the anti-PETA picketers defended the treatment of horses and horse racing. The event a result of the breakdown of Eight Belles at the Kentucky Derby. (Frankfort, KY) -- Kentucky First Lady Jane Beshear will present the 13th annual Governors Awards for Outstanding Volunteer Services tomorrow evening at the Capitol rotunda. Seventeen winners, including adults, youth and groups, will be honored for outstanding volunteer service. (Lexington, KY) -- Lexington Herald Leader employees are considering buyouts. Newspaper management cites declining ad revenue and circulation as they need to reduce the workforce by 4-percent or 15 people. Company officials met with employees on Tuesday. Illinois Summary --- Obama Inches Closer To Party Nomination Democratic Presidential Frontrunner Barack Obama is moving closer to his partys nomination. Obama handily defeated rival Hillary Clinton in North Carolinas primary yesterday. Meanwhile, Clinton narrowly defeated Obama in Indianas primary to keep her campaign alive. Obama said his win in North Carolina is a victory over division and distraction. Obama has been dogged by controversies over his association with a former pastor and comments about small town folks being bitter. --- DUI Charges Filed Against Driver In Pedestrian Death (Chicago) -- The driver of a car that plowed into a man and his daughter Monday night is now charged with two counts of DUI. Chicago police say 32-year-old Angelo Thomas has never had a drivers license or car insurance. His car pinned 39-year-old Joseph Richardson to a fence near the intersection of 95th and LaSalle Streets on Chicagos South Side. Richardson moved his daughter out of the way in time to save her life, though she remains hospitalized with leg injuries. --- Lawmakers Cite Funding, Other Issues With Anti-Violence Initiative (Springfield) -- Illinois money troubles could be the smallest of the problems facing Governor Blagojevichs new anti-violence program. The Governor wants to spend 150-million- dollars in state money to curb violence in Chicago. But Democrat Eddie Acevedo says his neighborhoods on the citys south side already had those programs, till the Governor vetoed them out of this years budget. He says Blagojevich is "meddling" in something he shouldnt have. Downstaters say the state cant afford 150-million-dollars, they say Illinois cant pay the bills now much less a new program. But Chicagos Deborah Graham says the program is as important as money to help communities recover from natural disasters. Governor Blagojevich says without the money, Chicagos violent year could become even worse this summer. --- Mice And Rat Infestation At OHare Downplayed (Chicago) -- Food at Chicagos OHare Airport is safe. So says a spokesman for Chicagos Department of Public Health, who admits seven restaurants at the airport have been closed because of safety issues since January of last year. Only one of those problems dealt with rodents. A spokeswoman for the Chicago Department of Aviation tells the "Chicago Tribune" the vermin do not pose a public health risk, and says crews are constantly working to clear the problem. An investigation by WGN-Television uncovered dozens of mice and rats at OHares Terminal One, including some in food service and preparation areas. --- Mayor Sympathizes With Bikers Affected By Cancelled Meet (Grayslake) -- The Mayor of Grayslake is taking full responsibility for canceling a motorcycle gathering scheduled for last weekend at the Lake County Fairgrounds. But thats not making any of the bikers happy. Mayor Timothy Perry ordered the show stopped less than 48 hours before it was to take place because law enforcement officials learned that violence was planned. About 30 motorcyclists and their friends spoke out at a village board meeting last night. They call the move discrimination, and are asking for proof of the alleged threats. Up to 40-thousand people were expected to attend Sundays Ironhorse Roundup Bike Show. Circuit Judge David Hall is charged with DUI after an April 26th incident in Vernon Hills. Hall remains a judge, because he was elected to that post. He is on leave and faces sanctions from state judicial oversight bodies. Halls colleagues had said they would remove him from the chief post if Hall did not step down before a Thursday meeting. Halls legal problems have not impacted regular court services. --- Childrens Museum Pros, Cons Debated (Chicago) -- The future of the Chicago Childrens Museum will take center stage when the City Councils Plan Commission meets next week. Those for and against moving the museum to Grant Park previewed their arguments at a forum held by the Union League yesterday. One of the most vocal aldermen against moving the museum, 42nd Ward Alderman Brendan Reilly, says it doesnt make any sense. But Museum President Jennifer Farrington defended the 100-million-dollar project, saying it would actually bring in more natural light than the museums current site at Navy Pier. Those against the move maintain it is illegal for a private institution to build anything in Grant Park. Supporters say the new location would make the museum more accessible. --- Cop Testifies In Case Of Attempted Murder Over Vodka (Lombard) -- A former Lombard police officer says he had no time to react before a gunman fired the bullet that ended his career. Jerry OMeara testified yesterday at 59-year-old Paul Grygos attempted murder trial in DuPage County. OMeara went to Grygos condominium in September 2004 to ask him about the theft of an eight-dollar bottle of vodka. Prosecutors say Grygo yanked opened the door and fired five shots, one of which hit OMeara in the shoulder. The trial continues today. --- Four Children And Two Adults Hurt In Hit And Run (Chicago) -- Chicago Police are looking for the person who injured four children and two adults in a hit and run crash. Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Marcel Bright says it happened at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 900 block of 35th Street on Chicagos South Side. A 30-year-old mother was taken in serious condition to Northwestern Hospital. Another adult was transported to University of Chicago Hospital and was treated and released. The four children have been listed in stable condition with no life threatening injuries at Comers Hospital. The child victims include a 15-month-old boy, an 18-month-old girl and a three year-old boy and girl. Police describe the vehicle involved in the crash as a beige Sedan.
