America is addicted to water. Its estimated every person in this country uses four hundred gallons a day. Compare that to the world average of just two and a half. As a nation we use seven billion gallons of water every day. A hefty percentage of it doesnt quench our thirst. It waters our lawns. Across the country many communities face serious water shortages. People are asked or forced to cut back. But does that mean letting lush lawns go to pot? "No it doesnt, and a lot of people think that. A normal lawn to keep it gorgeous really only needs about an inch a week.. not a day." Youll stretch that inch a lot farther if you water early in the morning. You might want to consider retiring your lawn mowers grass catcher as well. Grass clippings do a lot more good in your yard than in a landfill. "Leave a little of the clippings there, because it will help hold the moisture."
And then theres the pollution factor. Think cars are bad for the environment? Well, so is your mower. An old lawn mower produces as much pollution as forty late model cars. That means an hour in your yard is doing as much harm to the atmosphere as one hundred miles behind the wheel. Of course some simple maintenance could go a long way. "Early spring before you do your first lawn mowing, you need to go in there clean out your carburetor, clean out your air filter, change your oil. Then clean out that air filter because the dust and grass, everything can get that clogged up."
Americans use 800 million gallons of gas a year mowing lawns.
