A Kentucky elementary school is closing its doors after more than 100 years. But the community wont let it go out without a celebration. People of all ages gathered at the small school to say goodbye. Most of the people who gathered at utica elementary were there to remember the good times they once had there. Some could even name all their old classmates. Although the community is sad to see the old school close its doors, they realize that when doors open at Southern Oaks Elementary this August, itll mean a brighter future for the children. The new elementary is a 9 million dollar project that students from Deer Park, Burns, and Utica elementaries will attend. The principal of Utica elementary says theyre expecting about 400 students this fall, but the school is built to hold more than 600. Old traditions were on everyones minds as they toured their old school one last time. Where the older and younger students all had a chance to share what Utica Elementary means to them. Southern Oaks Elementary will have state of the art technology. It will host students from pre-school to 5th grade.
