breaking news
On the last day of school, students are usually racing for the doors. But, students at Corpus Christi school were revved-up to learn a quick lesson in the parking lot. Mrs. Kerneys third grade class has been learning about math, in drag racing. So she decided to bring her husbands drag car to school to make the lesson stick. Kerneys class wasnt the only one to see the car. Other classes joined in the fun as well. Kerney says its important the students learn that math and science extend beyond the classroom.
" Its kinda one of those reminder things about how important math and science are in anything you do. And that even in drag racing math and science are important and apply on a daily basis to what racers do."
In the classroom, students learned fractions with one-eighth and one-quarter mile tracks, the forces applied to the cars, and how weight plays a role in racing.
