Family of 9 year old Jarred Doolittle and his mom, 41 year old Jeanne Roth, organized a fund raiser which brought in more than $2000 to help them pay for funeral expenses incurred earlier this month. The two were killed when the car 16 year old Shelby Doolittle, Jarreds brother and Jeannes daughter, was struck by a semi at the intersection of Highway 66 and Lincoln Avenue in Newburgh May 12. Gary Doolittle, the boys father, says hes hoping to gather signatures to present to the Indiana Department of Transportation to compel them to put a stop light at the intersection. It currently has only a flashing yellow light for traffic on 66, and a flashing red signal for drivers on Lincoln Avenue. "All the other intersections around there have lights on the," Gary said, "its by far the most dangerous." Gary Doolittle says the planned widening of Highway 66 from two to four lanes will only make the Lincoln Avenue crossing more dangerous. A spokeswoman with INDOT says they will listen to Doolittles concerns, and study the intersection at his request.
