Report Claims Threat Of AIDS Pandemic Over
The World Health Organization has officially admitted the threat of a global heterosexual AIDS pandemic has disappeared.
Britains "The Independent" reports the admission may mean the universal prevention strategy AIDS organizations have promoted for the last 25 years may have been misdirected.
A spokesperson for the WHOs HIV/AIDS department says outside of sub-Saharan Africa, AIDS is mostly a threat to high-risk groups like intravenous drug users and gay men.
WHO cautions the public not to take the numbers for granted though because AIDS/HIV still kills more adults than all wars and conflicts combined.
