More And More Injuries Caused By Golf Carts A surprising new problem is causing people injuries. Golf cart injuries have increased since the buggies starting moving off the course and onto the streets. The "New York Times" reports the number of people getting hurt in golf cart related incidents increased 132-percent from 1990 to 2006. According to the "American Journal of Preventive Medicine," a reason for the increased injuries is that golf carts have become faster and more powerful over the years. They can reach up to 25 miles an hour and are now being spotted at a variety of venues including sporting events, hospitals, airports, national parks and college campuses. While 70-percent of the injuries occurred at sporting or recreational facilities, 30-percent occurred on the street or around a home or farm. Nearly a third of the injuries involved children. A major problem is the carts dont have brakes, which can result in the vehicle fish-tailing and overturning. (Copyright 2008 by Newsroom Solutions) RNS-06-12-08 0305CDT
