Fighting Fuel Prices: Air Fares Going Up At Northwest
Its Friday the 13th, which means a new 20-dollar fuel surcharge for Northwest Airlines customers.
Its the 13th overall fare hike this year for the countrys airlines.
American Airlines recently added a 15-dollar baggage check fee.
US Airways will soon get two-dollars for non-alcoholic beverages served in coach on domestic flights.
The troubled carrier is also cutting 17-hundred jobs and slashing flights.
Delta will also cut more than 12-percent of its domestic capacity this year.
During all this, Delta and Northwest, still planning on merging, are among the major airlines asking Congress to help balance trading on the commodities market, in order to keep fuel prices under control.
Estimates show the top 25 airlines could spend 28-billion-dollars this year on added fuel costs.
