A Lemon Wedge On Your Drinks Side Can Be Harmful
Did you know ordering a slice of lemon to sit on the rim of your glass at a restaurant can be dangerous? ABC News cited a study carried out by Good Morning America that looked at lemons served at several chain restaurants.
They found some lemons contained levels of fecal matter and even E.coli.
Applebees, TGI Fridays and Chilis were all part of the research.
Investigators ordered a lemon wedge with their beverage and took a swab to later send to a lab.
Four of the samples contained dangerous bacteria.
GMA advises consumers to squeeze the lemon juice into their drinks and then cast aside the wedge.
Experts say some hard alcoholic drinks can kill the bacteria when a lemon slice is dropped in, but drinks with a lower alcohol content will not.
