Indiana Summary --- Indiana Gas Prices Dropping Some (Indianapolis) -- Prices for gasoline in Indiana are dropping a bit. Many stations are now selling regular unleaded gasoline for or around four-dollars-eight-cents a gallon. Those stations are seeing a steady lineup of cars, especially those filling up for vacation trips. --- Indianapolis Man Dies In Motorcycle Crash (Indianapolis) -- A man died over the weekend in a motorcycle crash in Indianapolis. Police say that the accident happened early on Sunday evening near market and Pine Streets in Indianapolis downtown. Twenty-year-old David Foster was killed after police say he was speeding along the Market Street ramp entering the interstate. He lost control and the motorcycle struck the guard rail. He was thrown from his vehicle and landed on the pavement about 80 feet from impact. Police say Foster was wearing a helmet. --- Police Shoot And Kill Armed Man (Indianapolis) -- Police in Indianapolis shot and killed an armed man over the weekend. Detectives say Edward Rader was shot and killed after an altercation with police and SWAT team on the southwest side. The incident happened around 7 oclock Sunday night. Police say the 23-year-old man waved a gun at the officers. Thats when police pulled out their weapons and shot him. Officers were called out after shots were reported fired in the area. When police arrived, they found Rader and a relative struggling over the gun in an alley. Rader has been described as suicidal and had been creating a disturbance in the area. Officers say they felt their lives were in danger and had no choice but to shoot the man. --- The Latest Winning Numbers From The Hoosier Lottery Daily Three-Evening: 6-2-9; Daily Four-Evening: 6-2-1-1; Lucky Five-Evening: 2-9-16-21-26. Kentucky Summary (Manchester, KY) -- A 13-year-old girl is being treated for a gunshot wound at the University of Kentucky Medical Center. Her father is charged with the shooting. A domestic disturbance broke out in a house west of Manchester. Investigators say 43-year-old Johnny Smith fired a shot into a vehicle striking his daughter. (Covington, KY) -- The highly publicized Fen-phen trial is winding down. The trial of attorneys Shirley Cunningham Jr., William Gallion, and Melbourne Mills Jr. could end this week. There have been more than three weeks of testimony and hundreds of documents submitted as evidence. (Richmond, KY) -- It was a Fathers Day tragedy, fire destroyed a home in Richmond. The Red Cross is helping the family with temporary lodging, but they lost much. One family member said everyone escaped injury and thats the important thing. Firefighters say an electrical problem may have started the fire. (Newport, KY) -- One of four escapees from the Campbell County Jail remains at large. Three are back in custody. The four escaped on Friday by going through a bathroom vent, then another vent and crossing the roof. The at-large convict is 34-year-old Jorge Zetina Gomez. (Nicholasville, KY) -- The family of Mark Dunn are hoping to increase the two-thousand-dollar reward for his killer. Dunn was found shot to death, then burned in his truck. The truck was discovered in Jessamine County near the Kentucky River in May. Family and friends held a fundraiser at a pub to raise money for the reward. (Washington, DC) -- Senator Mitch McConnell joins countless others in mourning the passing of NBC newsman Tim Russert. McConnell says Russert was perhaps, quote, "the toughest, most fair-minded, and intellectually rigorous interviewer of our day." Senator McConnell who appeared with Russert on "Meet The Press" numerous times says, quote, "Elaine and I are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Tim Russert." (Frankfort, KY) -- Carlos Pugh has been part of the Veterans of Foreign Wars for over 30 years. Now hes the statewide commander of the organization. The 71-year-old Frankfort man will visit all 13 VFW districts in the state as commander. Illinois Summary --- Crews Still Working To Restore Power (Chicago) -- Fewer than 12-thousand ComEd customers in northern Illinois remain in the dark. A utility spokesman says about 700 of the 11-thousand-700 customers without power are located in the city of Chicago itself. Most of the rest are located in the suburbs. About 140-thousand outages were reported on Sunday. More than two-hundred ComEd crews worked through the night to turn the lights back on, with many workers putting in 16-hour shifts. --- Lake County Floodwaters Still Rising (Antioch) -- Flooding will likely do more damage in Lake County this month than it did during last Augusts disastrous rains. Emergency officials say the Chain O Lakes is already two-feet above flood stage, and its expected to rise as much as two-inches higher by the time it crests Wednesday or Thursday. Lake County Emergency Management Director Kent McKenzie says more than one-hundred homes in Antioch, Antioch Township, Grant Township and Fox Lake are damaged. Another 500 homeowners have standing water on their property. Governor Blagojevich has declared Lake County a disaster area. --- Arrest Made In Shooting Of Bellwood Teen (Maywood) -- Maywood authorities say theyve made an arrest in the shooting of a Bellwood teenager earlier this month. Police Sergeant Tim Curry tells the "Chicago Tribune" more information will be available later today about the arrest in the death of 17-year-old Tawanna Ford. She and her boyfriend were sitting in a car near the intersection of 9th Avenue and Washington Boulevard on June 2nd. Authorities say the boyfriend exchanged words with two men standing on the sidewalk, who seconds later fired at the car. Police have said they dont believe the teens knew the shooters. --- Police Shoot, Kill Man On Chicagos Far South Side (Chicago) -- Chicago police shot and killed a man on the citys Far South Side just after 11 p.m. yesterday. The Independent Police Review Authority is investigating the shooting in the three-hundred block of West 109th Place. A police spokesman says a weapon was recovered from the scene, but officers say theyre still investigating whether the subject fired back at officers. Theres no word on his identity. Its the third police shooting in two days. Officers shot and killed 26-year-old Devon Young early Saturday morning in the 58-hundred block of South Wabash. That night, police shot and wounded a man just blocks away, in the 59-hundred block of South Michigan Avenue. --- Candidate Speaks At South Side Church (Chicago) -- Senator Barack Obama is urging fathers to be there for their children. The Democratic presidential candidate delivered a Fathers Day address at the Apostolic Church of God on Chicagos South Side. Obama discussed the responsibilities of fathers and parents to help their children achieve dreams. He also talked about growing up as the son of a single parent. Retired Apostolic Bishop Arthur Brazier said he doesnt think it "behooves" members of the congregation to keep talking about the past. Brazier announced his retirement earlier this month, but returned for Sundays service. --- Report: Rezko Not As "Pressured" As Claimed (Chicago) -- Questions are being raised about how "pressured" fundraiser Tony Rezko was to talk about illegal activity with top politicians. Rezko claimed in a letter written to the judge in his corruption trial that prosecutors were pressuring him to tell stories about wrongdoing involving Governor Blagojevich and Senator Barack Obama. The letter was written in April as Rezko asked to be released on bond for the duration of his trial, but it was just placed in Rezkos case file last week. The "Chicago Sun-Times" reports Rezko never sat down with federal prosecutors or any other investigators to talk about his situation. Rezkos lawyer also says Rezko was never directly or indirectly pressured to talk about anyone else. Rezko was convicted on 14 of the 21 counts against him and is awaiting sentencing. --- County Board President To Meet With Palatine (Palatine) -- Cook County Board President Todd Stroger will take questions from Palatine residents during a public forum there tonight. The Harper College question and answer session will touch on a variety of subjects. But many expect Stroger to explain exactly why he believes Cook County needs a one-percent sales tax increase, which will take effect later this year. Some Palatine officials have threatened to secede from the county over the sales tax hike and other issues. Stroger backed out of a previous engagement in Palatine because he felt he was being ambushed. This event is sponsored by the village Chamber of Commerce. It starts at 7 p.m. --- Reverend Pfleger Returns To St. Sabina (Chicago) -- Reverend Michael Pfleger 1/81/8 FLAY-ger 3/83/8 returns to his pulpit today. Chicago Cardinal Francis George suspended Pfleger from St. Sabina 1/81/8 suh-BYE-nuh 3/83/8 on the citys South Side after a fiery sermon he delivered at a separate church caused a scandal. During a guest appearance at Trinity United Church of Christ late last month, Pfleger mocked Hillary Clinton in what some have called a racist rant. It made national headlines and caused Trinitys most famous member, Illinois Senator and Presidential candidate Barack Obama, to leave that church. Pfleger has spent two weeks on suspension. Theres no word on the activist priests plans for his first days back on the job. --- "August: Osage County" Wins Five Tonys (New York, NY) -- The Pulitzer Prize-winning play "August: Osage County" added five Tony Awards to its trophy chest last night. "August," written by Chicago-based dramatist Tracy Letts, earmed Best Play honors at the 62nd annual Tony Awards ceremony. Deanna Dunagan was honored for best performance by a leading actress in a play and Rondi Reed won best performance by a featured actress in a play honors. Director Anna Shapiro took home a Tony for best direction of a play, and Todd Rosenthal was honored for scenic design. "August" debuted at Chicagos Steppenwolf Theater, where a Tony Awards viewing party was held last night. During the ceremony, members of the Chicago Shakespeare Theater picked up their Tony Award for excellence in regional theater. --- Monkey Breaks Out Of Indiana Zoo (Michigan City, Indiana) -- An industrious monkey used a garden hose to break out of the Washington Park Zoo in Michigan City, Indiana last week. Zoo officials say they drained a moat surrounding the spider monkey habitat so it could be cleaned. They figured the sociable animals would stay where they were -- but one of the two monkeys decided to make a run for it. The monkey climbed a garden hose, jumped onto the roof of a neighboring water filtration plant, and headed for Trail Creek. Officials eventually surrounded the monkey while it was on top of a docked speedboat. Zookeepers say the monkey was never a threat to anyone.
